Power

I sat down to write this with a plan. I wanted to write about power.

Power is the theme I always come back to when I’m reflecting on what I’ve learned over the last 7 years. In every moment, we are creating our lives. We are the creators, the powerful creators, of our life on this earth. When we look inward and take control of our mind and body, we realize our power to create our experience of the world every day.

I was letting life happen to me. I was that piece of seaweed in the wave just getting pushed around and going wherever the wave and the tide and the other pieces of seaweed pushed me. Now I surf the wave. (Or at least that’s my intention – still a work in progress here!)

Before I started writing this morning, I went through some old writing on my laptop and found the questionnaire I filled out for my first coaching session 7 years ago. Reading it has blown my mind. Just WOW. I talk about my strengths and weaknesses, what I hope to get out of the coaching, what my biggest obstacles are, what I love doing, and more.

43 year old Pam sits here thinking she’s learned so much over the last 7 years. Guess what? 36 year old Pam that filled out that questionnaire? She knew it all then.

She
Just
Couldn’t
Get
There.

For example, I’ve come into 2020 with some intentions for the year. One example is that I intend to spend more time outside. I don’t care what I do, I just want to be outside.

Here is what 36 year old Pam wrote:

Being outside – just being outside. I went to Jamaica once and I remember seeing the way the people lived – they had a little shack for sleeping, and then maybe another one for cooking, but they lived outside – it was like their living room was outside. I think I could live that way.

Here’s more:

4. What are your weaknesses?
I doubt myself constantly. I see the negative easier than the positive.  I have a hard time saying no (I’m a lot better at it now than I once was though!)  I have a pattern of not knowing what I want, so then doing what everyone wants.  I’m sensitive to other people’s feelings and emotions, in that I take them on like a sponge.

Here’s what this shows me. 36 year old Pam? She didn’t know how to find what she truly wanted in life. And what she wanted was peace and freedom.

She
Just
Couldn’t
Get
There

She didn’t know her power.

Her power was this:

She
Could
Get
Herself
There.

And that was what she did.

Going forward, my intention with my writing is to talk more about the things I did and learned and changed in my life that allowed me to step into my power. I would love if you followed along.
