Wesley turned twelve today. The house tradition is the birthday boy or girl gets breakfast in bed – a tradition Christian has passed along from his childhood. Wes wanted Entenmann’s raspberry danish, eggs with cheese, bacon and apple juice. So that’s what he got.
A snow day for both boys.
For me, one of those days that got away.
I was talking to a friend today about how I live in the house I grew up in. And how I do a lot of the same things I did as a kid. I do a lot of the same things I did back then to comfort myself. And I had a moment of appreciation for the fact that I always knew what I needed, I just forgot for a bit.
And we went to my mom’s for Wesley’s birthday cake and she showed me an old photo she had found. My brother and I sitting on the bulkhead, holding our new puppies. And yes, I always knew.
