I’m on week two of twelve weeks of The Artist’s Way. Written by Julia Cameron, the book’s full name is The Artist’s Way – A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity. Each week you explore some aspect of your life and using a series of exercises, with hopes of learning what’s preventing you from creating. She says, Creativity is the natural order of life. Life is energy: pure creative energy. Each week you are asked to go on something she calls The Artist Date. This is a planned excursion to nurture your imagination and get the creative juices flowing. It really can be anything that leaves you feeling inspired.
So today, I went on my weekly Artist’s Date. And let me tell you, it was a bust. But I’m learning. It seems I have to learn one thing over and over again – and that is, Manage your expectations, Pam. What I expected to bring me peace and joy, actually brought me anxiety and stress. And I ended up with lots of not kind thoughts bouncing around in my brain. So I did what I do, and I brought myself back with some comforting thoughts. There is always something to learn, isn’t there? And I did see lot’s of pretty classic New England scenery. But I even beat myself up for the few lame photos I snapped. They don’t even remotely do these old towns justice.
Tomorrow is a new day. Onward.
