Noticing

Christian and went out to lunch today to celebrate our anniversary. We’ve been married 19 years which is just crazy to think about. We started dating when we were both 20 years old, and we’ve been together for 24 years total. Wild. We really didn’t know what we were getting into. But here we are, still chuggin’ along. We’ve done pretty darn good navigating this life together. And we made two cool kids.

Things I noticed today:
Two goats walking on top of a stone wall.
The sound of a deer’s hooves hitting the ground while it ran away from me in the woods.
The screen on the front porch wasn’t secured properly (because Wesley leaned on it and it let go and fell through onto the concrete patio.) (He’s fine.)
It’s painful to look at baby/toddler photos of your kids when they get older.
When you eat an entire bag of Dove milk chocolate squares, your trash can will look really sparkly from all the wrappers sitting on the top.
It’s not a good idea to drink two martinis at your celebratory anniversary lunch.
My shadow can point out cute little flowers in the field.
No one is perfect and if you are accepting of another’s human-ness, they will accept your human-ness too.

Thanks for reading today’s entry in my daily blog.  My goal here is to practice noticing. I try to write about small things and I try to keep it light. Sometimes I write about creativity or healing. And sometimes I write about my dogs or what I cooked for dinner. Writing daily here is a way for me to shine a light back on my life and help me see.
