The house was quiet this morning. Christian got the boys up early and went skiing. Our two littlest next door neighbors (nephews) stopped in. I like to think they come to visit me, but I think it’s more for the goodies in the snack drawer.

I stayed busy in the kitchen today meal prepping. Tomorrow I start a 21 day sugar detox program. Meat and vegetables galore. Anticipating major mind disfunction this week. (This is a warning.)

Today is the last day of Christmas break for the kids. Charlie said, “I can’t believe I have to go to school tomorrow.” But he doesn’t go to a school, he stays in his room.

There are some moments when the reality of this time hits you. When our kids have their own kids, what will they tell them about the time the virus changed everything? I think about my grandmother and her stories of the Great Depression. As a kid, I listened, amazed and curious. I couldn’t comprehend what that might have been like. I think I have a better understanding now.

The Smashing Pumpkins came on the radio and I was in high school again. Volume up.
Today is the greatest
Day I’ve ever known
Can’t live for tomorrow
Tomorrow’s much too long
I’ll burn my eyes out
Before I get out.
